Hired Workers Edit

2010: There were 1,157,000 hired workers on the Nation’s farms and ranches during the week of October 10-16, 2010, up 4 percent from a year ago. Of these hired workers, 826,000 were hired directly by farm operators. Agricultural service employees on farms and ranches made up the remaining 331,000 workers.[11]

1995: There were 3.39 million people working on the Nation's farms and ranches during the week of October 8-14, 1995. Self-employed farm operators accounted for 1.59 million of the total, along with 541,000 unpaid workers (family members), and 957,000 workers hired directly by farm operators. Agricultural service employees on farms and ranches made up the remaining 302,000 workers.[12]
